Kenya, Samburu, safari – 2023/5

Samburu National Park is located in northern Kenya, in a dry and rugged landscape along the Ewaso Ng’iro River. This region is known for its unique ecosystem where semi-desert plains, bushy savannahs, and lush river oases meet – the river being the vital lifeline for both wildlife and local communities. Samburu is home to several rare species found almost nowhere else in Kenya, including the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, beisa oryx, and Somali ostrich.

The park is also famous for its large populations of elephants and lions, as well as graceful cheetahs and leopards that are often seen during early morning safaris. Among the acacia trees wander giraffes and gerenuks – antelopes that stand on their hind legs to reach the highest leaves.

The park takes its name from the Samburu people, who still live here as traditional pastoralists, adding a rich cultural dimension to the region. Samburu offers visitors an authentic African experience – a wild, tranquil, and untouched landscape where time seems to stand still and nature reigns supreme.
